Porsche Experience Center - Los Angeles

The Porsche Experience Center in Carson, California is a purpose-built 53-acre facility and road handling course, one of only five such sites in the world. The new West Coast location will be situated near the intersection of two major Los Angeles area traffic arteries, the 405 and 110 Freeways, and is just minutes from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).

Millions of residents and visitors will have easy access to the Porsche Experience Center Los Angeles: at LAX alone, more than 59 million travelers passed through the airport in 2010. The Handling Circuit has been designed not as a race track but as a challenging country road. Using the contours of the land we have created a flowing series of corners and undulations that all offer very different challenges for both car and driver. You will learn the correct lines, braking points and how to safely extract the maximum enjoyment from your driving experience.

The Acceleration Straight provides a safe and controlled environment to fully explore how a Porsche accelerates using launch control with an added twist. Near the end of the nearly 3/4 mile straight, a replica of the Karussell (Carousel), the famous banked curve on the Nordschleife (North Loop) of the Nürburgring, awaits for your enthralling g-force experience.

The Low Friction Handling Course consists of a polished concrete surface with tight curves to mimic slick road conditions. You’ll quickly develop a feel for the car’s balance and world class handling, while honoring your own driving skills, specifically over-steer and under-steer.

The Low Friction Circle consists of highly polished concrete on a wet surface that in turn creates an ideal environment to provoke, correct and hold oversteer all at speeds which enables you to build an understanding of car dynamics.

KICK PLATE

The Kick Plate is a computer-controlled hydraulic plate set flush to the road surface is designed to induce loss of rear wheel traction, putting the car into a skid or spin. The driver will be taught the correct technique to ‘catch’ the slide and bring the car under control (but maybe not the first time).

The Ice Hill has a 7% slope, computer-controlled water jets and a low friction surface. A combination which provides a unique and challenging scenario to test even the most experienced of drivers. But as you begin to appreciate the handling characteristics of the car, it’s a challenge you’ll find addictive.

Test the speed, agility and lane-change performance on a large asphalt pad designed to simulate unique maneuvers you may encounter during your daily driving. On the dynamics pad you can really test your personal driving and handling skills.

The Off-Road Course is designed to show how the technical systems of the Porsche Cayenne and Macan work in off-road conditions. The 78-degree vertical descent, ravine bed and fallen timbers are only a few of the all-terrain obstacles packed into the ability of the car, as well as yourself. By the end, you will be better equipped to tackle nearly every type of off-road terrain.
