Redondo Beach is the largest of the three Beach Cities located in the South Bay. It is only minutes away from Downtown LA and LAX, and offers a truly diverse range of real estate. Redondo Beach is bordered to the south by Torrance and the Palos Verdes Peninsula, to the north by Hermosa Beach and to the east by Torrance. The beach city is broken up into two different territories: South Redondo Beach and North Redondo Beach. Like the other two beach cities, Redondo’s main lifestyle draw is its wide sandy beach and great climate.
North and South Redondo Beach are two very different places. South Redondo incorporates the beach and lies directly south of Hermosa. The main attractions include the King’s Harbor pier and tourist attractions, and the Riviera Village area. King’s Harbor plays host to a number of restaurants and eateries on the pier commonly frequented by tourists and visitors. The Riviera Village is one of the true lifestyle draws of South Redondo. Living within walking distance is a true bonus because of the access to terrific dining, charming boutiques and close proximity to the beach. Real Estate in South Redondo is eclectic. Most properties that line the beach are apartments and condos erected in the 70s and 80s. As you move further from the coast, classic beach bungalows and larger homes populate neighborhood streets. South Redondo’s streets are wooded and gently curve up the hillside where homes can have expansive ocean and city views. The one knock on South Redondo Beach is that it is a bit further of a commute to Los Angeles than North Redondo. Because of its location to the beach and Village area, South Redondo is generally more expensive that North Redondo, but each has its pros and cons.
The popularity of North Redondo Beach stems from its ease of commute and proximity to the major freeways. It easily has the widest price range of the three beach cities. The area is broken up into many different neighborhoods and zones, each with its own restrictions and benefits. Here modestly priced family homes, townhomes and condos line wooded streets eastward until reaching Torrance. Areas in North Redondo can be zoned as R2-R4 which allows multiple townhomes to be built on the same 7,500square foot lot. In the situation of an R4 zone, 3 townhomes could potentially be built on the one lot, making the price more affordable.
Redondo Beach is a blend of the beach and inland cities of the South Bay, uniting the best qualities of a beautiful year-round climate with a diverse, active, and engaged community. With all of the advantages combined, Redondo Beach provides the perfect place for those who want to be in the sun and near the ocean while still maintaining a somewhat rural lifestyle.
